BALPPA – “Safety is the number one priority”
Following the incident at Drayton Manor last week BALPPA, the Trade Association representing 300 members in the Leisure Park, Piers and Attractions industry, issued a statement highlighting the safety record in this sector.
“BALPPA was saddened to hear of the tragic events at Drayton Manor Park on the 9th May. The whole industry offers their condolences to the family involved.
Safety is the number one priority for the theme park and attractions sector. All operators work closely with the HSE to ensure that their rides and attractions are independently tested and certificated on a regular basis. This independent inspection process is approved by the HSE and monitored by the industry. Once certificated these rides have daily, weekly and monthly inspection regimes to ensure they maintain a high standard of operation. Additionally, organisations in the sector are required to develop and fully implement safe operating procedures that accord with the requirements set down by each ride manufacturer
As an industry we will continue to work with the HSE to discuss and improve all aspects of ride safety in our industry. This includes the current review of RIDDOR, which is the process of reporting incidents which currently shows that the industry has a very a strong safety record.”
